Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

So I’m crusin’ Twitter (not that I’m a subscriber – it’s a long story) and I notice all these references to Dr. Horrible. My search for it, eventually got me to the Dr. Horrible website. What a treat!!!

So I’m crusin’ Twitter (not that I’m a subscriber – it’s a long story) and I notice all these references to Dr. Horrible. My search for it, eventually got me to the Dr. Horrible website. What a treat!!! It’s from Joss Whedon, who created Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. It’s starring Neil Patrick Harris and others you know.

What we have here is a pure Internet show. It’s not on TV (but it is TV). It’s not theater (but it is theater – in the Little Shop of Horrors genre). Please, please go to the website to see the episodes, but for those of you who need to see a sample first, here’s the preview:

If you really enjoy it, you can download the episodes at iTunes.

Hancock: 4 stars

If you can only see one movie, make it Hancock.

It was with a half heart that I went to see Hancock today. My wife and I couldn’t decide whether to see that or Wall-e. We both figured that Wall-e would at least be entertaining, and Hancock had gotten mixed reviews. We decided on Hancock and From movie Hancockam I glad we did.

If you’re expecting something like The Hulk or Iron Man (I really loved Iron Man and thought it was head and shoulders over The Hulk), yes, you will be disappointed. Hancock is a little more cerebral. Imagine a super hero who does time in jail and drinks too much and basically has a bad attitude… that’s Hancock. Even though I thought I had figured out “the twist“, I was still surprised by the end. If you can only see two movies this summer (and that’s totally understandable considering the price of everything – especially gas), then see Hancock if you want something different, and Iron Man if you want more fun, but both are excellent choices. If you can only see one movie, make it Hancock.

Jing

I know,… it’s been a while since I’ve made and entry. It’s not because I have had nothing to write about. With the attack on privacy, I especially want to encourage the use of PGP or GPG. In fact, I will be adding my public key to this entry, and will make it a permanent resident on the About Page.

What I’m interested in at this point in time though, is a program project called Jing. People probably know that I use Macs but this particular item is cross platform. It run on Windows as well as Mac.

What exactly is Jing? Watch the video tour on the Jing page. You will be seeing a few more Jing things here, and I’m sure in other places too. This is just an example of a still image:

Imagine if you could do something like this as a video, and imagine that it only took a few seconds to do. Think of the decrease in emails because Continue reading “Jing”

Narnia

Contrary to what many critics seem to say, I think the first movie was much better than the second one…

Tuesday was my wife and my anniversary of nineteen years (thank you, thank you… 🙂 ). So, we decided to go see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. It was very enjoyable. I had seen the original release (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). Contrary to what many critics seem to say, I think the first movie was much better than the second one, because the story is woven so much more skillfully. The second movie is just a “lets do it again” (though I’ll admit, it is done well). It just isn’t as good.

My wife, who had not seen the first movie, really liked Prince Caspian… so much so, that she wants to see the The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Though you can understand what’s happening in the second movie without seeing the first, I’d suggest getting and watching the first movie before seeing the second.

Don’t forget to vote (on the right) for you favorite theme.

Typing test fun

I was testing out a piece of software called TextExpander, and reading the various links in the helpfiles, when I came across a typing test.

Now, I always knew I was a slow typist, but this slow?

Speedtest

And that’s after I took the test three times. You can try it yourself by clicking in the graphic or the Speedtest link.

Anyway, I’ll write more about TextExpander after I have played with it some more. So far it seems really cool, but mostly for those who often have to type the same phrases over and over. For example, by simply typing a series of letters (which you define), the program will replace them with whatever you have assigned to that combination, whether it be a word, or a short story.

That early phone call

I’ve been avoiding the name calling sort of stuff that seems so prevalent in the Democratic primary and only reporting facts, but (you knew there was a but) I couldn’t resist this one. I got the link from Senior Moments.

If you have ever seen a TV show with a stalker or even experienced being stalked, then you will identify with this scenario. Reminder: Stalking can go both ways. It just happens that in this instance, the stalker is female.

The Ex-Girlfriend

iron man

I could have done without the Transformers fight toward the end, but I’m sure that will be what draws a lot of younger people. Without that, I’d say the movie pretty smart and fun. Decent acting all around.

I saw a really fun movie today… Iron Man. I expected some super hero mess, but it turned out to be fairly hip, cool and entertaining. I could have done without the Transformers-like fight toward the end, but I’m sure that will be what draws a lot of younger people. Without that, I’d say the movie is pretty smart and fun. Decent acting all around.

Here’s the YouTube trailer. (Once again, don’t judge the movie by the trailer – the trailer gives you little idea of the story line).

Rachael Ray Parody

Do you like satire and parody? I know I do. It’s even better when you know someone who actually does it. My friend (Neil Swanson), worked on the photographs for a book coming out, that his wife (Elizabeth Hilts) did. It’s not released yet, but Amazon (in its infinite wisdom) will let you pre-order it NOW.

Yes, yes, yes…. this is a plug for the book, but come on… there are no other ads on this blog… at least not many. 8)

American Gangster

I’d say it’s a good way to spend an evening.

Russell CroweI watched American Gangster (Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe) last night on video onDenzel Washington demand. I had wanted to see it when it was in the movies, but never got around to it. It was one of those films that I would have liked to see but was not in a big hurry to see. I have to admit, it was a lot better than I thought it would be.

I’d say it’s a good way to spend an evening.

the bank job

Lots of suspense, twists and turns, and a love triangle just to add some spice.

I saw a thoroughly enjoyable movie today. The Bank Job.

If you get a chance to see it, then do see it. Lots of suspense, twists and turns, and a love triangle just to add some spice. These days of inflated movie prices, it’s rare that a movie matches or exceeds the money I have spent to see it. 😉

I couldn’t find the website, but here’s the movie trailer from YouTube. The trailer doesn’t do the movie justice.
