Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

So I’m crusin’ Twitter (not that I’m a subscriber - it’s a long story) and I notice all these references to Dr. Horrible. My search for it, eventually got me to the Dr. Horrible website. What a treat!!! It’s from Joss Whedon, who created Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly. It’s starring Neil Patrick Harris and others you know.

What we have here is a pure Internet show. It’s not on TV (but it is TV). It’s not theater (but it is theater - in the Little Shop of Horrors genre). Please, please go to the website to see the episodes, but for those of you who need to see a sample first, here’s the preview:

If you really enjoy it, you can download the episodes at iTunes.

Hancock: 4 stars

It was with a half heart that I went to see Hancock today. My wife and I couldn’t decide whether to see that or Wall-e. We both figured that Wall-e would at least be entertaining, and Hancock had gotten mixed reviews. We decided on Hancock and From movie Hancockam I glad we did.

If you’re expecting something like The Hulk or Iron Man (I really loved Iron Man and thought it was head and shoulders over The Hulk), yes, you will be disappointed. Hancock is a little more cerebral. Imagine a super hero who does time in jail and drinks too much and basically has a bad attitude… that’s Hancock. Even though I thought I had figured out “the twist“, I was still surprised by the end. If you can only see two movies this summer (and that’s totally understandable considering the price of everything - especially gas), then see Hancock if you want something different, and Iron Man if you want more fun, but both are excellent choices. If you can only see one movie, make it Hancock.

Narnia

Tuesday was my wife and my anniversary of nineteen years (thank you, thank you… :) ). So, we decided to go see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. It was very enjoyable. I had seen the original release (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). Contrary to what many critics seem to say, I think the first movie was much better than the second one, because the story is woven so much more skillfully. The second movie is just a “lets do it again” (though I’ll admit, it is done well). It just isn’t as good.

My wife, who had not seen the first movie, really liked Prince Caspian… so much so, that she wants to see the The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Though you can understand what’s happening in the second movie without seeing the first, I’d suggest getting and watching the first movie before seeing the second.

Don’t forget to vote (on the right) for you favorite theme.

iron man

I saw a really fun movie today… Iron Man. I expected some super hero mess, but it turned out to be fairly hip, cool and entertaining. I could have done without the Transformers-like fight toward the end, but I’m sure that will be what draws a lot of younger people. Without that, I’d say the movie is pretty smart and fun. Decent acting all around.

Here’s the YouTube trailer. (Once again, don’t judge the movie by the trailer - the trailer gives you little idea of the story line).

American Gangster

Russell CroweI watched American Gangster (Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe) last night on video onDenzel Washington demand. I had wanted to see it when it was in the movies, but never got around to it. It was one of those films that I would have liked to see but was not in a big hurry to see. I have to admit, it was a lot better than I thought it would be.

I’d say it’s a good way to spend an evening.

Giants vs. McCain

From Yahoo News:

Since 2002, the NFL has held its season opener on the
first Thursday night after Labor Day. This year, the game runs smack
into the final night of the convention, when McCain will officially
accept the nomination and give a nationally televised speech from
Minneapolis.

While the NFL has yet to announce its schedule for the 2008 season,
it’s apparently not going to shy away from having its season opener on
the scheduled day, with the game likely featuring the Super Bowl
champion New York Giants.

So, the NFL and NBC have agreed in principle to have the kickoff at
7 p.m. ET instead of the traditional 8:30 p.m. That would mean, except
in the event of an overtime, that the game would end before NBC’s
expected one hour of convention coverage for the night.

Unbelievable.

the bank job

I saw a thoroughly enjoyable movie today. The Bank Job.

If you get a chance to see it, then do see it. Lots of suspense, twists and turns, and a love triangle just to add some spice. These days of inflated movie prices, it’s rare that a movie matches or exceeds the money I have spent to see it. ;)

I couldn’t find the website, but here’s the movie trailer from YouTube. The trailer doesn’t do the movie justice.

More YouTube Testing

This is another test to see if the custom player goes through again.

It should be purple.

Yea!!! It worked.

sicko 3

I saw Michael Moore’s Sicko, today. Another one of those movies that had me either laughing or crying (literally). It’s amazing what we put up with as so called health care, and the path to who’s to blame is clear and straight.

This is a must see movie for anyone who plans on voting in 2008. It’s time the politicians were asked serious, open ended questions… both on the right and left. As the movie says if we can spend trillions for war, then there is money for health care.

Sicko 2

I didn’t see Sicko on Saturday, but hopefully I’ll get a chance to see it today. It has gotten good reviews.
