gonzales

I thought I had written something about this gonzales guy, but when I did a search, I onlly found a couple of references to him in relation to John Yoo.

I guess I kind of ignored him because he seemed so hapless. He is definitely a company man. Doing whatever the man in charge tells him to do… I just wonder how his boss, Karl Rove, will get him out this mess.

lieberman and constitution

New York Times:

Facing Senator Joseph I. Lieberman’s independent candidacy, Republican officials at the state and national level have made the extraordinary decision to abandon their official candidate, and some are actively working to help Mr. Lieberman win in November.

You need know nothing more about Lieberman than this tidbit. It’s not an accusation, it is actually what the Repugs are doing… That’s how important Joe is to them.

Amazingly easy to understand, isn’t it.

mr. smith goes to washington

Last week I was fortunate enough to see this movie again. What a great movie. I wonder if anyone in the bush administration has seen it.

today show

Oh… My…. God!!! I get up this morning and as is my habit, since it iis the top of the hour, turn the Today Show on to catch the headlines for the day, then I usually turn to Democracy Now for the real news in depth.

So, I figure the news headlines will contain some mention of the Supreme Court ruling yesterday wihich basically says that bush has been breaking all of our laws.

President Bush violated every standard of the military code, the US Constitution and international law with its order for military tribunals at Guantánamo.

via The Nation.

And, what is the Today Show showing at 8am (when they usually give the national and international news headlines??? An interview with Starr Jones… What!?!? Oh,… My,… God!!! How is that possible??? The (alleged) president of the United States is told by the Supreme Court that he and his administration have been violating the Constitution and international law (impeachment offenses with anything other than a Republican Congress) and we get Starr Jones???

Even if we get this clown out of office,an uninformed populace will put someone like him back in office. No wonder Katie left.

rove slithers away

Rove Won’t Face Indictment in C.I.A. Leak Case

Christ, it just keeps getting worse and worse.

time running out

Bush’s Approval Rating Falls to New Low - Yahoo! News:

“WASHINGTON - More and more people, particularly Republicans, disapprove of President Bush’s performance, question his character and no longer consider him a strong leader against terrorism, according to an AP-Ipsos poll documenting one of the bleakest points of his presidency.”

(Via Yahoo News.)

I would expect that now, before the fall elections, you’ll see Repugs falling all over themselves saying things like, “we don’t know him,… we never even liked him.” I would hope that people remember that it was the Repug congress that passed everything bush wanted (he still hasn’t vetoed anything) and that it was the Repug congress that allowed the credit corporations to write the bankruptcy bill. That it is the Repugs who are putting the constitution in danger and are, even as this is being typed, looking for ways to make spying on Americans without court approval, legal!!!

But that’s the Repugs. Many Dems have worried me as well. Some have been outright heroic though. As much as I’ve been dissapointed by the lack of back bone shown by the Dems, I cannot see myself voting for any Repug. No matter how liberal they appear, they all just fell in line rather than challenge this corrupt administrtion.

funeral

I considered myself fortunate’ to catch an excerpt of the Coretta Scott King funeral on The Newshour last night. Then, this morning while watching Democracy Now, I found that the program had some video cuts of the speakers who confronted bush (who was at the funeral).’ The speakers highlighted were:

  • Reverend Joseph Lowery, who co-founded the Southern Leadership Conference with Dr. Martin Luther King.
  • Maya Angelou, poet, writer, activist.
  • President Jimmy Carter

If you have a few minutes, watch the video. You won’t regret it. My immediate reaction was, “good… people are confronting this small man to his face,” but then I started thinking about how courageous these individuals are to speak truth to power.’ This got me to thinking about the karl rove stuff. People all over are scared to speak out… especially Senators,… especially Republican Senators.

Everyone, who has thought about our present situation longer than the time needed to slap on a yellow bumper sticker, knows that enough is enough.’ Those in government who continue to give aid and comfort to this criminal administration have told us where their loyalties lie, and it is not with this country or the Constitution of’ The United States of America.

I mean to say, I want to see a better world.
I mean to say I want to see some peace somewhere.

I mean to say I want to see some honesty, some fair play
I want to see kindness and justice
This is what I want to see…

state of the union

bush did not have to say a word to tell us what the state of the union is.

That an American citizen was arrested for wearing a t-shirt that opposes the views of the ruling party, says it all. That’s what state our union is in.

clown king

(click to enlarge) I love it!!! Thanks to Mary at Knock-Knock who thanks Sumo Merriment. Meanwhile, call you senators and tell them to filibuster the Alito nomination.

they get worse each day

The bush crime administration is so arrogant, it is almost beyond belief.

Within weeks of the news being revealed that peaceful protesters are targets of FBI surveillance, and bush pretty much declaring, “Warrants? I don’t need no stinkin’ warrants,” we get this news from the clown in chief’s minion, Alberto Gonzales (son of Yoo), that they want to see what Americans search for on the internet.

“Google is rebuffing the Bush administration’s demand for a peek at what millions of people have been looking up on the internet’s leading search engine — a request that underscores the potential for online databases to become tools for government surveillance.

Google has refused to comply with a White House subpoena first issued last summer, prompting U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales this week to ask a federal judge in San Jose, California for an order to hand over the requested records.

The government wants a list of all requests entered into Google’s search engine during an unspecified single week — a breakdown that could conceivably span tens of millions of queries. In addition, it seeks 1 million randomly selected web addresses from various Google databases.”

(Via Wired News.)

This ought to make a number of right-wing bush defenders who used the “If you haven’t done anything wrong, what’s the problem?”, a little uncomfortable. Who knows what they’ve been searching for in the privacy of their homes using Google? Oh, and by the way, if they used AOL, or Yahoo, or MSN search engines,… forget it. Those companies just rolled over and gave Gonzales what he wanted.
